The outbreak of violence in northern Kosovo, namely the skirmish between KFOR troops stationed there and local Serbs. The situation in the north escalated after KFOR soldiers started removing roadblocks set up by Serbs who then in response attacked KFOR soldiers with firearms. The skirmish resulted in nine KFOR soldiers and six Serbs injured. Kosovo dailies refer to developments in northern Kosovo as a state of war.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s call on all parties to refrain from unilateral actions and on international mechanisms to stick to their mandate. The Kosovo Government issued a communiqué condemning the violence against KFOR troops by criminal structures. The European Union has expressed support for the KFOR/EULEX operation to remove barricades in northern Kosovo as they are limiting freedom of movement.
Developments in the north have meanwhile postponed the seventh round of dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade in Brussels. Kosovo’s chief negotiator Edita Tahiri told reporters that the meeting was postponed because the Serbian delegation arrived late in Brussels. Serbia is conditioning the seventh round with talks on northern Kosovo. Meanwhile Kosovo Assembly Presidency is saying that technical talks with Serbia are turning into political talks.
KFOR today at noon has replaced the Hungarian and Portuguese rotation, which was patrolling the top-entry of the main bridge south side of Mitrovica. German troops are creating a mobile military base, which will serve their military needs. Germansare being deployed on the southern side of the city, also already have taken over the control of the main bridge which divides the city into the north (Serb dominated) and south (Albanian dominated), through the Ibar river.
A crowd of children’s and ordinary citizens of northern Serbs are gathering together at the tent which is placed prior to the gravel barricade on the entrance of the main bridge of Mitrovica north.
