Kurti received the greatest number of votes in a race that for the first time has seen very close results, especially in the last week.
Albin Kurti becomes the main personality of the Albanian lands, in the poll organized by Top Channel. One reason for this choice has been the always increasing personality of this political leader in Kosovo, who has turned into a main figure even in Albania, Macedonia and the Diaspora.
Through the symbolic anti-government actions on the ground, Albin Kurti has turned the Self-Determination Movement from a civil movement to a parliamentary party, with great significance in the political life of Kosovo.
However, to put his political organization within the parliamentary system that the movement were fighting against all those years, Kurti had to purge his movement by the ‘inaudible’ activists who refused to violate the political concept of the movement which Kurti wanted to turn to a political party in Kosovo.
Whether such a campaign against its activists had been developed up to and including murder threat against activists who were not given easily submitted to internal pressure and political blackmail inside this movement.
Since the cleansing of the Movement turned into a political party by Kurti and his partizans, former activists and some of them former founders, have given explanation statements to the public in Kosovo, but the movement turned into a party has not responded never against, except the threat to their current activists that if any of them communicate with former activists will be automatically deported from the Kurti’s party.
Mr. Kurti’s movement had ‘fought’ against the political system in the country, offering arguments that the only way to fight this system is the street (peacefull demonstrations), going up to sacrifice the lives of two activists who were killed and over 80 others who were maimed and remains invalids by the rubber bullets and real bullets used by police of United Nations mission in Kosovo, during a peaceful protest against the Ahtisaari package held on February 10, 2007.
Conflicting evidence presented in public while the movement of Mr. Kurti declared against the Ahtisaari package, but operates on the basis of its even up to now have voted in the favour of many laws in the Kosovo’s Parliament which are both legally bound by the Ahtisaari plan.
Kosovo albanian pedestrians just before the late elections in 2010, faced anti-election graffitis all over Kosovo, that rejects Kosovo elections on the basis of Ahtisaari plan, written by activists of Self-Determination Movement, which has strongly opposed the Comprehensive proposal, by UN special envoy for Kosovo-Serbia talks.
Considering Kosovo politicians to the beneficiary as to whatever political developments that took place in Kosovo, while Kosovo Albanians do not have the right to referendum, the graphite has this sense:
“I Vote,
You Vote,
He/She vote,
We/You vote,
They benefit”
Despite the fact that representatives of Self-Determination Movement were declared and pledged that they would not accept the current political system, they decided to run in parliamentary elections in Kosovo in 2010. Despite the factual situation on the ground, the former movement activists did not accept that they have already become a political party in Kosovo, just, another fact for the contradictory slides, that are occurried to this movement after the events of February 2007.
However, the November 2009 local elections, the first held since the country’s independence and the first administered by Kosovo’s own election authorities, presented a mixed picture of Kosovo’s “democratic development”.
Another leader of a similar movement is the one that has been voted second, Kreshnik Spahiu, the leader of the Red and Black Alliance, who aims to protect the rule of law, the religious and ethnic harmony in Albania.  The movement created by Mr. Spahiu has raised awareness among Albanians in all the lands where they live.
On the third place were the victims of January 21st, the four persons who lost their lives in the opposition protest in front of the Prime Minister’s office. The voting for them has another significant symbolic, for a tragedy that will be carved in the memory of the Albanians and that marked year 2011.
The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, keeps the fourth place, while the historian Kristo Frasheri is ranked fifth. The Tirana Mayor, Lulzim Basha held the sixth position, followed by the football player Lorik Cana in the seventh. The President of the Albanian republic was ranked eighth, while the artist Saimir Strati, who set his sixth Guiness record a few times ago, holds the ninth place. The soprano Ermonela Jaho was chosen by the Albanian voters in the tenth place, for her singing in the best scenes of the world.
This is the seventh year that Top Channel organizes the “Personality of the Year” internet poll.
