At least seven people were killed and dozens missed by avalanche in the village of Restelica, Dragash area, in region of Prizren, deep in southern Kosovo, the Ministry of Interior, announced Saturday night.

In a press statement aired by the Pristina television, the MIA said rescue teams have exhumed three bodies and are searching for scores of missing people who were trapped in their houses that were overwhelmed by snow after the avalanche.
The statement added that the casualties tally may increase due to the difficult conditions. Kosovo is grappling to adopt with the cold snap and heavy snow fall, the worst in years.
Seeking to save people lives and help cut to minimum the number of the bad weather causalities, Kosovo government has declared a public holiday for institutions across the nation throughout the week
A girl, between five and seven years old, was found alive late on Saturday after residents and emergency services helped dig out the houses. She was taken to hospital.
“There are seven dead people and it is believed that three others are still missing,” Kosovo police spokesman Baki Kelani said.
More than 500 people have died in the past two weeks across Europe as temperatures plummeted in many regions close to minus 40 Celsius.
