Electoral Assembly of the Association of Professional Journalists of Kosovo (APJK), on April seven, elected chairperson and six members of the board who should lead the association during the next two years from 2013 to 2015.

The vote was secret. Radio-rapporteur of the ‘Dukagjini’ company Liridona Lluka was chosen to lead this organisation which, as we have witnessed, had lost the confidence of a mechanism that protects and supports journalists after being resulted in a re-manufacturing Press “reactions”. Rightly before the voting proceeded many colleagues have expressed dissatisfaction about the quality of the financial report with the charter of the organisation their laziness and yet “recognition” of the power of UNMIK.

The association also has not built a code of ethics in relation to the constitutional laws of the country and, at least, has not even published a manual to review the decisions of the Press Council which could serve journalists as a kind of code.

Perhaps many journalists expect this trend to change and better served with other association, but the first signs are not encouraging. Even with a simple search on twitter, if you review posts of last ten days, chairwoman Edona Lluka seems particularly more interested in politics.

In one of her tweets to Blerand Stavileci, Minister of Agriculture, she says, “For someone makes a great person the name and someone the family, but you are great because of your work and modesty. So continue, without thinking,” she tweeted on April 24.

In another case she re-tweet a number of tweets of Kosovo’s Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj, while he speaks for the agreement of 19 April in Brussels and “squeeze” the Prime Minister Ivica Dacic’s guidelines “against Euro-Atlantic integration” of his government.

Her re-Tweets include signatures from Kosovo’s ruling party booklets (PDK) deputy chairman Kadri Veseli which is as reported ‘former’ head of party’s intelligence service and actions by the other names in the party.

At the time of the Brussels agreement, she posted Kosovo’s PM Thaci picture with Baroness Cathy Ashton and marks “an important moment of signing the agreement. I am happy that for any second I don’t think as Self-Determination Movement ” she added.

Journalists need to be patient and independent in relation to their attitudes to political developments in the country. In particular this applies to someone who is in charge of an organisation that represents them. If the new leadership will not strengthen the APJK but will damage it further, now even through politics, is it probably better now to be considered the early elections?
